CEO pow-wows with Speaker

WINDHOEK - Media institutions should take government to task, engage politicians in substantive debate and make them respond to tough questions pertaining to critical issues that challenge Namibia as a democratic society.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab, expressed these sentiments on Wednesday morning when Dr Audrin Mathe the newly appointed CEO of New Era paid him a courtesy visit in his office. The visit was one of many planned by Mathe with politicians, senior executives of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and other top officials to find ways and means on how best New Era could improve its media coverage and also to enable them to gain insight into New Era’s operations.
New Era has an obligation to report factually and fairly on government matters and to act as the eyes and ears of government, as as such it needs the support of all parliamentarians, said Mathe. He said that with support New Era would transform itself to be a mouthpiece for the voiceless rural majority, who are often out of touch with the progress being made by government and what programmes are in place.
